Larissa Hjorth is researcher and artist lecturing in the Games and Digital Art programs at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. In 2007, she was research fellow at CICC (Communication Interface and Culture Content) Research Group at Yonsei University, South Korea. Over the last seven years, Hjorth has been researching and publishing on gendered customizing of mobile communication, gaming and virtual communities in the Asia–Pacific. Hjorth has published widely on the topic in journals such as Convergence journal, Journal of Intercultural Studies, Continuum, ACCESS, Convergence, Fibreculture and Southern Review. As a media artist, Hjorth has been the recipient of an Australia Council Tokyo studio, Asialink Seoul residency, and Akiyoshidai International Village Residency. Hjorth has lived in Seoul and Tokyo and has participated in over 100 group exhibitions and 15 solo exhibitions. In 2007, Hjorth will be co-convening the International Mobile media conference with Gerard Goggin in July 2007 (www.mobilemedia2007.net) and the Interactive Entertainment (IE) conference at RMIT University in December 2007 (www.ie.rmit.edu.au). She is currently editing a special issue of Games and Culture journal (Sage) on gaming in the Asia-Pacific region.
